In case readers of this blog are wondering, this blog is still alive and well. I have less time for blogging these days so I will quickly run through a number of points.

At the Oct. 7th Guildford Borough Council meeting I spoke in support of the Send Parish Council / Mr. Howard Turner’s petition, and specifically spoke about insetting Send from the Green Belt (taking Send out of the Green Belt). On this evening there was a peaceful protest with the Save Send Group attending, greeting those arriving with the Save Send signs. The upshot of the evening is that the Local Plan is very much being reworked, and the Council is much more receptive to hearing criticism. Although the petition was well received, the majority did not vote with Send on the evening to reduce the proposals for Send as the petition had asked, however Send’s councillors Taylor and Patrick did vote with us. Some quotes from the evening:

  • Cllr Stephen Mansbridge said “We fully acknowledge the strength of feeling in Send, Send Marsh and Burnt Common”
  • Cllr Colin Cross said “We have to get some proportionality into our proposals and apply that concept borough wide, not just skew the balance predominantly toward our northern wards”
  • Cllr Sarah Creedy told the Council that the housing department made a representation during the consultation period “expressing grave reservations about the suitability of the site at Wharf Lane for a traveller pitch”

I am supporting the Save Send Action Group, but am not part of the day to day running of this group. They are in charge of the signs, stickers, leaflets, and fighting fund which is needed to keep up the protest against the Local Plan. Their website is http://www.savesend.info – please take a look.

Save Send Action Group & GGG (Guildford Greenbelt Group) at Send Social Club. A public meeting will take place Monday 17 November at 7.30pm at the Send Social Club (not far away from Send Road, at the start of Tannery Lane). Come and hear about the latest news regarding the Plan and the wider issues the GGG have been covering borough wide. Furthermore, GGG have just been approved as a political party, the upshot being they will have even more influence on the Local Plan come election time. Read more about it here.
